About the Event

EA for Sustainability is the theme that will be featured at The Open Group virtual event on January 31 - February 1, 2023, including a pre-con session on the TOGAF® Series Guides, on Monday, January 30, 2023.

One of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals is aimed specifically at industry and innovation, with the intention to: “Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”. The UN’s vision is that such a goal can, not only lead to a reduction in the significant carbon footprint of the IT industry, but will itself, introduce, and promote new technologies that can impact sustainability across all industries and contribute towards a much greener future.

In a recent event of The Open Group, David Holmes, General Manager - Energy, Dell Technologies, presented research survey results involving Accelerating Sustainability Technology through Industry Standards. There were three pivotal themes[1]:

  1. Standards - essential to acceptance
  2. Capability - increase in computational power
  3. Resilience - critical to meet customer and regulatory needs

Overall maintaining their vision of working together to innovate together, create solutions and finally accelerating transition.

Ron Tolido, EVP, CTO Capgemini Insights & Data global business line, presented Capgemini’s ‘Do Well, Do Less, Do Good’ campaign, which really encapsulated EA for Sustainability. Having been referenced in their principle for the cause itself: “Boost the organizations societal purposes by saying “Yes” to technology that boosts sustainability, and say “No” to what is energy-wasting or non-essential. While emphasizing the importance of the Total Social Impact of initiatives and looking for technology that actively benefits societal purpose.[2]
